Figure Skating

Overview

How to Start Figure Skating

It is easy and exciting to begin figure skating! First, begin in our Skate School/Learn to Skate Classes to learn the very fundamentals of ice skating!

2.) Once your skater can do forwards crossovers easily, that is when you can begin to enroll in Aspire Figure Skating Classes!Aspire is a great way to begin learning basic jumps and spins and many other figure skating specific skills! Skaters are encouraged to take more than one Aspire class per week and join any performance opportunities that come up!

3.) If your skater is ready to learn more about figure skating, please fill out a Private Lesson Request Form. Figure skaters are successful in the sport when a coach is guiding them through the development process. The sooner you connect with a coach the better!

4.) One you are working with a coach, your skater will know how much they will need to be practicing and taking lessons and classes. Skaters can then become a Member of Premier Skating Academy. Members pay a bi-annual fee to cover their ice time, access to off ice facilities and figure skating-specific equipment. Members also have access to figure skating development classes and priority in performance opportunities, camps and educational opportunities that Premier offers.

5.) Skaters work with their coach to pursue their goals! Skaters can take official US Figure Skating tests, compete locally or across the U.S., and they can even pursue competing at the Olympics! Premier Skating Academy will provide many of the resources skaters will need to achieve their dreams!

Private Lessons & How to Find A Coach

Skaters may seek out private lessons for many reasons! If you are looking to pursue figure skating more seriously, having a private coach is necessary. Your primary coach is the person who will help guide the skater through the sport of figure skating, facilitate the skater’s development and help the skater achieve their goals!

If you are looking for a long term coach for your skater, you want to find a coach who “clicks” with your skater, whose values, goals and expectations the family aligns with, and that the coach’s schedule is one that the family is willing to accommodate. Each coach works for themselves so make sure you understand the coach’s payment and any other business policies.

Other skater’s may enjoy private lessons for other reasons, such as getting extra help on a skill that has been challenging to them.

Families can fill out the Private Lesson Request Form, and we will connect you with a coach as soon as possible!

Memberships

Skaters at Premier Skating Academy mostly purchase memberships. The membership fee is paid bi-annually (once at the beginning of the school year/when you join and once at the beginning of the summer). Memberships are designed to be cost-effective so families can budget for ice time costs and have a simple way to pay for the ice time.

There are three tiers of memberships that families can select from. It is based upon how much your skater is skating per week.

The membership includes:

  • Ice Time

  • Access to off ice training facilities, i.e. gym and workout equipment

  • Access to skating-specific equipment, i.e. spinners and harness

  • Access to figure skating development classes

  • Priority registration for any performances or events hosted by Premier Skating Academy

Simply fill out the Membership Inquiry Form to receive more information about signing up for a membership. You can sign up at anytime throughout the year for a membership!

Please note: all figure skaters are also required to have a Learn to Skate USA membership and/or US Figure Skating membership. Skaters can belong to any US Figure Skating Club and still skate at Premier Skating Academy.

Visitor Passes

Skaters may skate on Premier Skating Academy ice time as a Visitor by purchasing “Visitor Passes.” These passes are valid for one day of skating. Visitors must still follow all safety rules and hold a current Learn to Skate USA or US Figure Skating memberships.

Some days, Visitor Passes are limited if ice times are full.

Skaters can purchase either a regular Visitor’s Pass or an Aspire Visitor’s Pass. An Aspire Visitor’s Pass is meant for young skaters who are just beginning their figure skating journey.
